Unheimlich is a deeply personal project that stems from a subconscious desire to meticulously stage photographic scenes and subsequently position myself into these instinctively. Drawing on my individual experiences since moving to London for my degree, this project developed from a realization about the challenges and fears I've faced – particularly feelings of loneliness, sadness, and the struggle to fit in, heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This motif of not belonging unconsciously surfaced in my photographic work by finding myself staging scenarios that reflect detachment or solitude. Dialogues with acquaintances have illuminated the shared nature of these feelings, hereby inspiring me to explore and share these emotions photographically.

The Archive of this project catalogues objects and literature, that can be found within the series of photos. These objects hold great personal value to the personal element of my staged scenes, often representing a personal connnection to a place, person or space.
This projects intention is not only to visualize the feelings of detachment and solitude, but lead through the development that I have experienced, reflecting these emotions, writing about them - where they come from and what I can do to alleviate them – displaying visual roots in the making, slowly becoming at ease with being alone but not lonely.

Unheimlich is more than just a collection of images; it's a cinematic exploration of loneliness and solitude and what comes after it. Through this project, I aim to create a space that not only showcases my vulnerability but also resonates with others who share similar experiences.

It's my visual journey through the emotions and situations connected to life in a vast city like London

The ideal vision of how this work would be exhibited, in a gallery space, is currently viewable through New Art City here
